The main news on the goalkeeping front this week was whether Manchester United’s David De Gea and Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas would swap places, but as most of you surely know, the deal fell through at the last minute as the transfer papers missed the midnight deadline! That means that Navas stays, at least until winter, and he proved his worth with a second clean sheet in a 5-0 win over Adán’s Betis. Last year’s “Zamora” award winner Claudio Bravo has also not let in a goal though, and three other keepers, Oblak (Atlético), Rulli (Real Sociedad) and Cuéllar (Sporting) are also on zero as we go into the international break. There were clean sheets as well for Sergio Alvarez (Celta), Riesgo (Eibar), Javi Varas (Las Palmas) and Rubén (Levante), the first three making their first appearances this season (Alvarez and Varas back from suspension and Riesgo recently signed), and Juan Carlos also got his first minutes at Rayo after Toño was sent off early on against Celta. Elsewhere Valencia’s new keeper Mat Ryan is set to be out for the next four to six weeks after picking up a knee injury in the match against Deportivo. The Australian keeper was signed in the summer as cover for Diego Alves, himself out until the new year with knee problems, and that only leaves the less experienced Yoel for the upcoming league and Champions League fixtures.
