Spare a thought for Rayo’s new goalkeeper Yoel, who was hit for double figures in the Bernabeu stadium this weekend! Having moved from Celta to Valencia, he found himself as fourth choice this season behind Diego Alves, Mat Ryan and Jaume Domenech, and therefore gladly accepted a loan move to Rayo as cover for the injured Toño. However this Sunday it all went horribly wrong (albeit that virtually none of the goals were his fault), and he may now lose his place to Juan Carlos.

Elsewhere though there were only 14 goals in the other eight games (Barça’s match at Sporting was postponed for the Club World Cup), and eight keepers managed clean sheets, including Pau López (Espanyol), Adán (Betis), Sergio Rico (Sevilla), Lux (Depor), Areola (Villarreal), Iraizoz (Athletic), Rubén Blanco (Celta) and Kameni (Málaga). Blanco was given the nod by Berizzo ahead of Sergio Alvarez after a good performance in the midweek cup game, and it was the same situation at Levante, where Diego Mariño replaced Rubén for the visit to Espanyol.
