Bad news for our leader Sergio Asenjo, an injury to his cruciate knee ligament in the game against Real Madrid probably taking him out to the end of the season. The Spanish international keeper has already had three similar injuries to his right knee, but this time it was his left that gave in on him saving a header from Benzema, Andrés coming on to replace him shortly before the break. We wish him a speedy recovery!

On the other hand Oblak is back after his long injury lay-off, and he was thrown in at the deep end for Barcelona’s visit to the Calderón stadium on Sunday. As Asenjo is unlikely to complete the minimum number of games to compete for the “Zamora” trophy, it now looks like the award will be between the Atlético keeper, Ter Stegen, Keylor Navas and Diego López.

López was in fact one of four keepers who clocked up a clean sheet this weekend, the others being Rulli (Real Sociedad), Herrerín (Leganés) and Yoel (Eibar). Navas meanwhile returned for the midweek match against Valencia (rescheduled from last year) after being rested last Saturday. (27.02.17)
