European Championships 2007/8. Spain qualified for the final stage after beating Austria and Italy and drawing with hosts Romania in their Elite round group. European Championship Finals 2006/7. Spain are this year's champions after a Bojan Krkic goal gave them a 1-0 win over England in the final. The victory means they qualify for the under 17 World Cup, which will take place this summer in South Korea. Spain were drawn in group C together with Honduras, Syria and Argentina. (13.05.07)

European Championships 2007/8. Due to a change in format, Spain will have to play in the preliminary rounds next season. Qualification for the next round should be a formality though after they were paired together with Wales, San Marino and Andorra. The top two will go into the hat for the Elite round, which will consist of seven mini-leagues of four teams. The winners will join hosts Turkey in the finals in summer 2008. (01.03.07)

European Championships 2006/7. The draw took place for the Elite round today, with Spain being paired with Switzerland, Poland and Sweden in group 7. Matches will take place in Almuñecar and Nerja, Spain, in March, with the winners to go through to the finals in Belgium at the beginning of May. (05.12.06)

European Championships 2005/6. Spain finished third in this year's European Championship after beating Germany in the consolation play-off. Juan Santiesteban's side won through the group stage with maximum points, but were knocked out by the Czech Republic in the semi-finals. (14.05.06)

Spain qualified for the finals of the European championship after finishing top of their elite round group in Cyprus. The youngsters got off to a shaky start with a 1-1 draw against the hosts, and everything depended on the last day as Spain beat Wales 2-0 and Cyprus beat Moldova by the same score in their second games. But a hat-trick by Valencia's Aarón gave Juan Santiesteban's side a 3-0 win over Moldova, and with Cyprus falling to a 0-2 defeat against Wales, Spain will be in Luxembourg for the finals in May. Another edition of the Atlantic Cup took place this winter, with Spain's under 17 side once again invited to take part alongside Northern Ireland, Austria and the hosts, the Canary Islands. Juan Santieseban's side finished second behind the Canary Islands. (10.02.06)

The draw for the elite round of the 2005/6 European championships took place today, with Spain being paired together with Cyprus, Moldova and Wales in group 5. The four teams will play a mini-league in Cyprus towards the end of March 2006, with the winners going on to the eight team finals in Luxembourg on 3-14 May. The draw for preliminary round for the 2006/7 tournament also took place, but Spain were once again exempt due to their high ranking and will go through directly to the elite round prior to the finals, which this time will be in Belgium. Spain will not be taking part in this summer's European finals after finishing second to Switzerland in their qualifying group. (02.04.05)

Last season's under 17 side qualified once again to play the Meridian Cup, which takes place every two years between the top four U17 sides in Europe and the top four U17 sides in Africa. This year the tournament took place in Turkey, with the European sides running out overwhelming winners. Spain, France and Turkey won all four of their games, and Spain did not let in a goal throughout the competition. (11.02.05)

Spain's new under 17 squad kicked off at the Atlantic Cup invitation tournament in the Canary Islands. In the end though Juan Santiesteban's side could only finish runners up to the Czech Republic, with the Canary Island regional selection finishing a surprising third ahead of Greece. (28.01.05)

The draw for the second qualifying round of this season's European under 17 tournament threw Spain into group I together with Denmark, Switzerland and Poland. The youngsters were exempt the first qualifying round as one of the top three seeds in the competition. The group I matches will take place in Mallorca, and the winners of each of the seven groups will join hosts Italy in the final round from 3rd to 14th May 2005. (30.11.04)

Spain finished runners up again in the European championship after losing 2-1 to hosts France in the final. The winning goal came two minutes from the end after Piqué had equalised a first minute strike by their neighbours. (15.05.04)

Juan Santiesteban's side qualified for the eight team European finals after finishing top of their group, and have been drawn in group A, together with hosts France, plus Turkey and Northern Ireland. Spain will be hosting the group one matches for the second qualifying round of the 2004 tounament. Opponents will be the Czech Republic, Russia and Hungary, and matches will take place in Los Barrios and Algeciras on the South coast of Spain. The winners go though to the finals in France in May. Spain lost 0-1to Brazil in the World Cup youth final and finished runners up again for the second time in their history. Their only other final was in 1991, when they were beaten by Italy. (30.08.03)

Spain's 20 man squad are now in Finland preparing for the youth World Cup which kicks off later this week. Juan Santiesteban's side qualified for the tournament after finishing runners up to Portugal in the European championship earlier this year, and are drawn in group D together with Sierra Leone, the Korea Republic and the United States. Spain finished runners up to hosts Portugal in the 2002/3 European Championship and have qualified for the youth World Cup, scheduled for next August in Finland. (17.05.03)

Spain were drawn with England, Italy and Israel in group B for the European finals, which have now been set for 7th to 17th May in Portugal. As well as the European title, the two finalists in the competition will qualify for the under 17 World Cup which will take place in Finland from 13th to 30th August. Full squad (25.04.03)

The second phase group matches of the European championship will be held in Spain between the dates of 2nd and 8th March. Fixtures and venues have yet to be decided, but the decision gives Juan Santiesteban's side a good chance of qualifying for the finals in Portugal in the summer. A few days ago the draw was also made for the first stage of the 2003/4 edition of the championship, which will be held in France. Spain were once more seeded to go through automatically to the second phase. (16.12.02)

Spain were defeated by France in the semi-finals of the 2001/ 2 European championship, which were held in Denmark. Nevertheless, it was enough to be named as one of six seeds, and they were therefore exempt from the first group stage of the 2002/3 edition. Seven groups of four have been drawn at the second stage, with the winners of each group joining hosts Portugal in the finals in summer 2003. Spain play Bulgaria, Wales and France in group 1. Games must be completed by the end of March, with the finals due in May 2003. In the meantime the schedule for the 2003/4 tournament has already been set, with Spain being named as one of the three seeded nations who will skip the first group stage.

The side also qualified for the Meridian cup, a competition which takes place every two years between European and African countries. Europe will be represented by Spain, England, France and Switzerland, and the African sides are hosts Egypt, plus Nigeria, Mali and Burkino Faso.
