Changes once again to the European competition, with teams drawn into ten qualifying groups for the 2007-2009 campaign. The ten winners and the four best second placed sides will play off for the seven places in the finals, which will take place in Sweden. Spain were paired with Russia, Poland, Georgia and Kazakhstan, with sides to play home and away between 2nd June 2007 and 10th September 2008, and the play-offs in mid October 2008. Spain's under 21 side were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Italy in the play-offs and miss out on the finals once again. (10.10.06)

Spain won through their qualifying group, but were unfortunate to be drawn against Italy in the play-off. The youngsters will still be hoping to win through to the finals, especially as a place in the 2008 Olympic Games is at stake. (07.09.06)

There has been an important change to the under 21 European competition for the 2006/2007 campaign, with the qualifying tournament now being played separately rather than in groups mirroring the full international squad. Spain have been drawn in Group B against Slovakia and Albania, with matches to take place at the beginning of September (see group table). The 14 group winners will enter a head-to-head play off stage, with seven sides joining Holland in the finals in the summer of 2007. The youngsters will start off with a friendly against Poland at the end of February. (27.01.06)

Spain failed to even reach the play-offs this time around after finishing third in their group to Serbia and Belgium. (11.10.05)

Spain's new batch of youngsters will be starting off the latest edition of the European championship next month. Fixtures mirror the full international side's games in their qualifying group for the World Cup, with the under 21s playing the day before their seniors. The finals take place from 25th May to June 6th 2006, at a venue to be decided. Iñaki Sáez will once again be in charge after his brief spell as the first team coach, and there will be two friendly games before the competition starts. (02.08.04)
Group VII table

Spain failed to qualify for the final stage after losing 3-1 on aggregate against Sweden. The defeat means they will also not be present at the Olympic Games soccer competition next summer. (19.11.03)

Spain finished top of their qualifying group, and were therefore seeded in the draw for the final qualifying round in November. Their opponents will be Sweden. (13.10.03)

The team are currently seeking to qualify for the Euro 2004 European championship, which is due to be played next May/June prior to the full international tournament at a venue to be set once the qualifying sides are known. The Euro 2004 competition also decides which teams will take part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece. (07.06.03)
