After their match last week was called off due to a heavy snowfall, Athletic Bilbao returned to play Austria Vienna in their first leg tie. The conditions were not much better though, and the game ended without goals. The Basque side had the better of the game throughout, with Yeste, Etxeberría and Orbaiz all trying their luck at goal in the first half hour. Sionko put Lafuente to the test at the other end, but Ezquerro could have put the Basque side in front close to half time if he had been able to steer his header on target from Orbaiz's cross.

The heavy conditions slowed the game down further after the break, but Etxeberría went close on the hour mark with a shot just wide of the far post. Vienna substitute Gilwicz missed a chance to put his side ahead though when his attempted lob was collected easily by Lafuente. The game came to and a few minutes later, leaving Athletic in the driving seat for the return match, which has been rescheduled to take place next Sunday. If they do win through they face fellow Spaniards Zaragoza in the fourth round next month. (24.02.05)

The match between Austria Vienna and Athletic Bilbao was postponed due to a heavy snowfall, a decision which was put off until 45 minutes before kick off when many of Athletic's 4,000 travelling fans were already inside the stadium. Despite the best efforts of 100 ground staff the pitch proved to be unplayable, and the game has been rescheduled for next Thursday, 24th February, the day the second leg was due to take place. It appears that the return leg will now be played on Sunday 27th February, with Athletic's league game against Getafe postponed to around 23rd March. (16.02.05)
