Friendly Fixtures 2007/2008

Although clubs have a busy calendar once the league and other competitions commence, there will be several friendly matches whenever time allows. We set out below details of those games which have come to our attention. Please bear in mind that all dates are provisional and are subject to change at short notice. Matches already played in red, games pending in blue, changes since our last update in bold. For last summer's pre-season games see separate section. (31.05.08)

5-11 Sep Catalonia Cup
Played this tournament again in the summer. First semi-final at Palamós on 18/08, Nàstic 2 -Espanyol 2 (Oscar López, Rubio / Juanma, Zamora). pso 3-0 to Nàstic.
Barcelona won the second semi-final on 05/09 against Girona, who won through the previous knock-out stages between Sabadell, L'Hospitalet, Girona and Premià. The final was played on 11/09, the Catalan national day, in Palamos. Barça 1 (Víctor Vázquez) - Nàstic 2 (Pinilla, Maldonado). Winners Nàstic.
6-7 Sep Sundry matches
A couple of friendly matches were played during the first international break. Details were as follows:
06/09: Zamora 0 - Atlético Madrid 0;
07/09: Vitoria Guimaraes 2 - Deportivo 2 (Taborda, P Alvarez pen). pso 5-3.
11 Oct XVIII Juan Acuña trophy, Coruña
Back to the old format after last season's centenary special. Deportivo drew 1-1 with Vitoria Guimaraes, Aythami equalising in the last minute after Miljan had scored for the Portuguese side in the first half. Vitoria won 1-3 on the penalty shoot out.
11/12 Oct Sundry matches
Several friendly matches were played during the international break. Results were as follows:

11/10: Valladolid 1 (Alexis) - Lille 2 (Debuchy, Tahlrovic);
11/10: Granada CF 1 (Israel) - Almería 1 (Ortíz (Pen));

12/10: Bordeaux 1 (Wendel) - Osasuna 2 (Cruchaga, Sola)
5 Dec XXIX Santiago Bernabeu trophy
Real Madrid were due to host this tournament once again this summer against Sporting Lisbon, but the match was postponed due to the death of Antonio Puerta. Finally played against Partizan Belgrade in December, testominial to ex player Paco Gento. Won 2-0 with goals from Baptista and Drenthe.
26 Dec Com. Murciana 1 - Ecuatorial Guinea 0
Cartagonova. As usual there was a round of matches between Spanish regional sides and international opposition during the festive season. The Regional Community of Murcia played their third ever fixture against an Ecuatorial Guinea side which included several players from La Liga, including Balboa, Benjamín and his brother Iván Zarandona, Juvenal, Yago, Rondo and Epitié. Numancia striker Toché got the only goal in the first minute.
Team: Juanmi, Leo, Zamora, Ángel Robles, Óscar Sánchez; Valera, Pedro León, Mariano Sánchez, Isaac; Mista, Toché. Also played: Antonio Robles, Villanueva, Andrés, Juanma Iglesias, Nacho Jara, Álvaro, Meca, José García.
27 Dec Andalusia 4 - Zambia 1
Xerez. Andalusia kept up their unbeaten record with a comfortable 4-1 win over Zambia. Katongo put the African side ahead, but an Arzu strike and a Barral penalty turned the scoreline around before the break. Manu got a second penalty, and Paco Gallardo rounded things off later on.
Team: Pinto; Mendoza, Mané, Melli, Abraham Paz; Arzu, Jesús Vázquez, Jurado; Barral, Reyes, Manu Del Moral. Also played: Luque, Abel, Bezares, Lolo, Alfaro, Pablo Gallardo, Paco Gallardo, Manuel Ángel. Coach: Aldana.
27 Dec Galicia 1 - Cameroon 1
Balaidos, Vigo.Galicia's third match was spoiled by a one hour delay and some crowd trouble. Fernando Vázquez was in charge of the team, but couldn't count on Salgado, Barragán, Novo, Couñago and others for various reasons. Barcelona pulled Eto'o out of the Cameroon squad as a precaution, but Espanyol's Kameni was in the line up as well as other well known names. Both goals came from penalties late on, Julio Alvarez scoring for the locals and Rigobert Song replying for the visitors.

28 Dec Extremadura 2 - Ecuatorial Guinea 0
Badajoz. Extremadura put out a side for the first time this year, with several first division players in the squad, including Valladolid's Víctor, Getafe's Cortés and Murcia's Peña. Lleida's Luismi and Cádiz's Enrique got the goals, with Cartagena's Juvenal replying for the African side.
Team: Cuéllar; David Cortés, Peña, Juan Carlos, Cidoncha; Ito, Juanma, Torrecilla, Sabino; Víctor, Luismi. Also played: Juanma, Ricardo Cavas, Fausto, Perera, Pedro José, De Paula, Guzmán, Enrique.
28 Dec Canary Islands 2 - Angola 0
Las Palmas. The Canary Islands put out a side for the first time in five years, also against an Africa team. Valencia's Silva and Villarreal's Angel were the biggest names, with Deportivo's Valerón (still recovering from a long injury) in the stands. Adrián Martín and Jorge got the goals either side of half time.
Team: Ione Puga; Ángel, David García, Alexis Suárez, Juanma; Adrián Martín, Nauzet Alemán, David Silva, Jonathan Sesma; Cristo, Braulio. Also played: Ricardo, Javi Ortega, Pablo Sicilia, Aythami, Carmelo, Ayoze, Jorge, Rubén Castro, Pedro Vega, Ione Jiménez, Momo, Moisés Trujillo.
29 Dec Euskadi 1 - Catalonia 1
Bilbao. Once again the Basque regional side played Catalonia, a repeat of the match which took place in the Nou Camp some 14 months ago which ended 2-2. Bojan ran on to Coro's pass to open the scoring in the first half, but Mendieta and Gabilondo combined to set up Aduriz for the equaliser after the break. The bad news was a serious injury to Barça keeper Jorquera, who will be out for the rest of the season.

8-10 Jan Maspalomas trophy
Las Palmas beat Roseborg in the final of this winter trophy, which takes place each year in the Canary Isles. The match finished 2-2 (Viyuela, Yuri / Kone (2)), but the Spanish side won 4-1 in the penalty shoot out. Las Palmas beat Kaiserslauten 2-0 in the semi-final (Ruyman, Castellanos), and Rosenborg won by the same score against Helsingborg (Troaré, Storflor).
16 Jan Costa del Sol trophy
Trophy postponed from August due to bad state of pitch. Málaga played Borussia Dortmund instead of Betis, with the game taking place in their Rosaleda stadium. Match ended 0-1 in favour of the German side, with Petric getting the only goal in the first minute.
16 Jan Almería v Bayern Munich
Bayern took advantage of winter training in Marbella to organize a friendly game which was pending for loan of Julio Dos Santos. However the clubs couldn't agree on a kick off time, and the fixture was cancelled! A match between Granada 74 and Borussia Moenchengladbach was also postponed as the pitch in Motril was not in good condition.
16 Jan Tenerife 0 - Munich 1860 1
Another friendly game against a German side who are training in the Canary Isles during the winter break. Holebas got the only goal.
16 Jan Elche 2 - South Korea 2
La Manga. Warm up match for Korea for the Olympic qualifiers later this year. Drew 2-2, goals from José Vega and Centurión for the Spanish side.
4 Mar Espanyol 1 - Swansea 1
Friendly organised against Roberto Martínez's team. Valverde gave a run out to his reserve players against the Welsh side. Ewerthon scored for the locals, with McDonald replying for the visitors.
20 May Al Nasr 4 - Real Madrid 1
Flew to Saudi Arabia for a post-season friendly. Robben put Madrid ahead soon after the restart in front of a 70,000 crowd, but between changes and the intense heat they lost 4-1. Moath (2), Akram and Kreri scored for the hosts.
20 May Copa Galicia
Celta beat Deportivo La Coruña in a penalty shoot out to take the Galician Cup this year. The game ended goal-less, but keeper Luis García saved Filipe's spot kick to give the Vigo based side a 6-5 victory.
23 May Europa centenary match
Europa 1 (Delmás) - Espanyol 4 (Luis García, Ewerthon, Pedraza 2). La Liga founder club Europa, currently in the regional third division, celebrated their centenary with a friendly against city neighbours Espanyol.
24 May Catalonia 0 - Argentina 1
Post season friendly in Nou Camp. Messi, Agüero, Higuaín et al in Argentina side. Lavezzi got the only goal.
