Friendly Fixtures 2008/2009

Although clubs have a busy calendar once the league and other competitions commence, there will be several friendly matches whenever time allows. We set out below details of those games which have come to our attention. Please bear in mind that all dates are provisional and are subject to change at short notice. Matches already played in red, games pending in blue, changes since our last update in bold. For last summer's pre-season games see separate section. (30.06.09)

9 Sep Catalonia Cup
Play this tournament again in the summer. Regional division sides played two rounds in May/June, and then continued from 10 August. Barcelona and Espanyol enter at the semi-final stage. Nàstic beat Barça in last season's final.
Semi finals took place 09/09 in Sant Carles de la Ràpita, with Espanyol beating Sanboia 5-1, and a Barcelona B side losing 1-3 to Sant Andreu.
Final took place 8 October. Sant Andreu won 2-1, Jonathan Soriano opening the scoring for Espanyol, but Alvaro Corral and Dani Martí replying for the second divsion B side.
Early Sep Sundry matches
A couple of friendly matches are due to be played during the first international break.
Athletic Bilbao played Aluvión de Cascante in Bilbao on 03/09, W 0-5 (Iñigo, Ion Vélez, Koikili, Balenziaga, Murillo).
Recreativo beat San Roque 0-3 on 05/09 in Lepe, with goals from Beto, Colunga and Joselito.
09/09. Puertollano 2 - Getafe 2 (Soldado, Uche).

Espanyol's game at FC Santboià as part of the regional division club's centenary celebrations was postponed , as the two clubs met in the Catalonia Cup semi-finals the day before.

Brenes 0 - Betis 6 (Pavone 2, Juanlu 2, Rivera, Damià).
14/10:
Zaragoza 2 (Ayala, Licht og) - Getafe 2 (Kepa 2).
15/10:
Espanyol 1 (Nené) - Oman.
23 Dec Regional matches
The usual round of regional matches take place this winter, with teams from the autonomous regions taking on international opposition. The Basque side will not be one of them though after the players refused to play unless they changed their name from Euskadi to to Euskal Herria.
The Murcia regional community were the first to kick off, and they drew 1-1 with Estonia in Lorca thanks to a Toché penalty. Kink had given the East Europeans the lead.

27 Dec Galicia 3 - Iran 2
Rangers striker Nacho Novo scored twice just hours after playing for his club as Galicia beat Iran in Deportivo's Riazor stadium.
Galicia: Roberto; Aspas, Rubén, Adrián López "Piscu", Roberto Lago; Pablo Alvarez, Cabanas, Borja, Falqué; Julio Alvarez, Nacho Novo. Also played: Diego López; Noguerol, Capi, Sito, Trashorras, Alex Bergantiños, Dani Abalo, Nano, Jonathan Vila, Losada.
Goals: Nacho Novo (2), Losada (Pen) / Borhani, Khalatbari.
27 Dec Extremadura 2 - Peru 2
Cáceres. Extremadura played their second ever match after debuting against Guinea last year, this time drawing 2-2 with Peru thanks to two goals from Cacereño striker Rai.
Line-up: Casto; Edu Moya, Sergio Rodríguez, Cidoncha, Sergio Benito; Javito, Ito, Jesús Rueda, Troteiro; Enrique, Rocha. Also played: Samir, Tete, Agustín Fernández, Parra, Gúzman, Carballo, Generelo, Chirri, Sabino, Rai.
28 Dec Catalonia 2 - Colombia 1
Catalonia beat South America's Colombia 2-1 in the Nou Camp. Barcelona's Bojan got the first and Deportivo's Verdú the second, with Montero getting one back near the end. Next season they are hoping to organise the Nations Cup, with Spanish regional sides invited as well as international teams such as Scotland.

May / Jun 09 Barcelona on tour
Were offered €5 million to play against Kuruvchi in Uzbekistan in May! Agreed friendlies as well in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia for June.
