With his side already qualified for the play-off stage, López Caro used the occasion to give first appearances to César Azpilicueta, Jonathan Pereira and Dani Parejo.

After a dull first half the game livened up, Pedro having an effort cleared off the line by a defender soon after the restart, and Kombarov hitting the post at the other end soon afterwards.

With twenty minutes to go Susaeta was fouled by Granat, Mata converting the resulting penalty, and a few minutes later Piqué wrapped things up with a header from Parejo's corner.
