Aitor Karanka's new squad played two warm up games in Portugal in preparation for next March's Elite round. In the first on 1st December they ran out clear 0-3 victors, Paco setting up Juan Miguel to head the first and then scoring the second himself with less than a quarter of an hour gone. The third came later on when Thiago Ferreira turned Iñigo's free kick past his own keeper. Two days later though the youngsters were beaten 4-1, the hosts going three up at the break to put the result beyond doubt. Edu headed one back from a José Gómez free kick, but Bruma got his second of the day for Portugal after that. (03.11.09)
