2-1. 91. Jesé. Cut across area and struck shot which deflected in off Fuentes.

A last minute strike by Jesé saw Spain through to the quarter finals of the under 20 World Cup! Like their senior colleagues on Sunday though, they went behind in only the second minute when Arturo González connected with a long cross by Raúl López to turn the ball past Dani Sotres. And Mexico could have gone further ahead in the first half, Espericueta firing a shot against the crossbar and Corona bringing a good save out of the Racing Santander keeper.

The introduction of Suso early in the second half improved things though, the Liverpool forward going close following a Deulofeu free kick soon after coming on. Sotres had to keep out Corona once again a few minutes later, but with a quarter of an hour to go Derik made it all square after Denis Suárez headed on a Suso corner. Suárez hit the foot of the post and Alcácer brought the save of the evening from Richard Sánchez as Lopetegui urged his players forward, and with the match already in injury time Jesé cut across the front of the area and drove in a shot which deflected off Fuentes in to the net.
