Friendly Fixtures

Although clubs have a busy calendar once the league and other competitions commence, there will be several friendly matches whenever time allows. We set out below details of those games which have come to our attention. Please bear in mind that all dates are provisional and are subject to change at short notice. Matches already played in red, games pending in blue, changes since our last update in bold. For last summer's pre-season games see separate section. (15.06.15)

29 Oct Catalan Supercup, Barcelona v Espanyol
Abandoned the idea of the big two sides participating in the regional Catalan Cup, and agreed instead to play a one-off "Supercup". Match took place at Girona's Montilivi stadium, Barcelona 1 (Piqué) - Espanyol 1 (Arbilla). Barça won 4-2 in the penalty shoot out.

16 - 20 Dec Club World Cup
As reigning European champions, Real Madrid took part in the latest edition of the Club World Cup in Morocco, beating Cruz Azul 4-0 in the semi-final (Ramos, Benzema, Bale, Isco) and San Lorenzo 2-0 in the final (Ramos, Bale). See separate section for details.
Mid Dec LFP World Challenge
Following on from the summer games arranged by the LFP to promote La Liga, Sevilla were expected to play a couple of matches in mid-December (their own league and cup games for those dates have been rescheduled). However no agreement was reached, and the club were unable to find opponents to play in Spain during that period.

Regional match
Regional matches normally take place during the festive break, with teams from the autonomous regions playing international fixtures. Once again Euskadi and Catalonia were the only ones to organize games this year, and this time they agreed to play each other in the San Mamés stadium.

The women's teams also played the day before, the match ending 1-1.

29 Dec Champions for Life
Repeat of last season's charity match organized by the LFP and UNICEF this year to be played in Atlético Madrid's Calderón stadium in Madrid, with the presence of many top names from La Liga. Two teams, East & West, are scheduled to play three sessions of 30 minutes. For the record the game ended West 3 - East 2, Rodrigo & Lucas Vázquez putting East two up, and a Kameni penalty (!) and two from Baptistao (the second also a penalty) turned the scoreline around. The important thing though ws that over €400,000 was collected for the fight against Ebola in Africa.

30 Dec Real Madrid v AC Milan in Dubai
Money spinning friendly game arranged between Real Madrid & AC Milan in Dubai during the winter break. Last year Madrid played PSG in Qatar.
Real Madrid 2 - AC Milan 4 (Ronaldo, Benzema pen / Ménez, El Shaarawy 2, Pazzini).

XXX Maspalomas trophy
Winter trophy involving European club sides. Tournament took place in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). Germany's Augsburg beat PSV Eindhoven in last year's final. This year it was a triangular tournament with Celtic, PSV Eindhoven and Sparta Prague. Results as follows:

10/01. Celtic 0 -PSV 1;
11/01. PSV 5 -Sparta 2;
13/01. Sparta 3 - Celtic 2.

Winners: PSV Eindhoven.

26 - 27 Mar Further sundry matches...

Several clubs played international fixtures under the LFP World Challenge programme before breaking up for their summer recess:

29/05: Adelaide (Australia) 2 - Villarreal 3 (Goodwin, Marrone / Trigueros, Vietto, Moreno);
31/05: Hassania Agadir (Morocco) 2 - Sevilla 1 (Abdelhafiz pen, El Haddad / Diogo);
03/06: Brisbane (Australia) 3 - Villarreal 0 (Curt 2, Solorzano).
14 Jun Real Madrid veterans 4 - Liverpool veterans 2
Corazón Classic charity match in the Bernabeu stadium involving many big names, including Michael Owen and Steve McManaman (who played for both teams), plus Zidane, Butragueño, Roberto Carlos, Fowler, Rush, Carragher etc. 70,000+ crowd. Kewell & Owen put the Reds two up, but two penalties from Roberto Carlos plus strikes from Amavisca and Iván Pérez turned the scoreline around.
