Spain’s under 17 side got off to a winning start in this year’s finals, a 2-0 victory over the Netherlands taking them top of their group. Jordi Mboula opened the scoring on the quarter hour mark, the Barcelona forward running on to fire an angled shot past Van De Meulenhof. Soon afterwards the Dutch keeper had to tip a Morlanes free kick over the top, but Malen and Vente headed wide at the other end later on in the first half, and after the restart Iñaki Peña had to save from Justin Kluivert (son of Patrick) and Vente. However Barça’s Abel Ruíz made it two after the keeper could only push out a shot from Brahim, and Peña kept out a Wehrmann free kick to prevent the Dutch team from getting back in the match.
