Osasuna must be wondering
whether last season's refereeing nightmare is going to be repeated. This week's
"Freddy Kruger" was Rubinos Pérez, who rigidly applied the new FIFA rule
of red cards for players who block free kicks with their upper extremities
(stop giggling at the back of the class please!), sending off local midfielder
Plasil for such an offence. The Pamplona based side saved the penalty kick
though and held on to the end, but like in all the good Elm Street tales they
were bumped off in the last scene.
Elsewhere though the FIFA
rule didn't seem to apply. Pérez Burrull waved away appeals when a Real
Madrid free kick hit Espanyol's Moisés on the arm, and Mateu Lahoz
wasn't going to point to the spot under any circumstances when balls twice hit
Getafe's Cata Díaz on the arm and hand in the first half of the match
against Almería. Is there a conspiracy against men wearing red shirts?
