Intertoto Cup 2004/2005

Atlético Madrid and Villarreal are Spain's two representatives in the Intertoto cup this year after they finished seventh and eight in the league respectively. Atlético's appearance signals their return to European competition for the first time in five years, although they will be unhappy about missing out on direct clasification for the UEFA cup on the last day of the season. Villarreal will be hoping for a repeat of last year, when they won their final and went on to progress as far as the semi-finals of the UEFA cup. (01.07.04)
