Friendly Fixtures 2006/2007

Although clubs have a busy calendar once the league and other competitions commence, there will be several friendly matches whenever time allows. We set out below details of those games which have come to our attention. Please bear in mind that all dates are provisional and are subject to change at short notice. Matches already played in red, games pending in blue, changes since our last update in bold. For last summer's pre-season games see separate section. (30.06.07)

31 Aug Alberto Ormaetxea memorial trophy
A new trophy in honour of Eibar's ex coach who died recently. Triangular tournament with fellow Basque sides Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad invited. Results as follows:
Eibar 0 - Real Sociedad 1 (Díaz de Cerio)
Eibar 0 - Athletic Bilbao 0
Athletic Bilbao 0 - Real Sociedad 0.

Several friendly matches were played during the first international break. Results were as follows:
31/08: Alcalá 1 - Getafe 1 (Paunovic ) Cervantes trophy - Getafe win on penalties.
02/09: Racing 6 - Barquereño 0 (Juanjo 3, Rubén, Aganzo, Colsa)
06/09: Lugo 2 - Deportivo 0 (Copa Xunta Galicia)
06/09: Pontevedra 2 - Celta 0 (Copa Xunta Galicia)
1 Sep XXXIII Ciutat de Barcelona trophy
Espanyol once again hosted this match, which this year took place once the season has started. Rivals were Lazio, Espanyol running out 2-0 winners with goals from Pandiani and Corominas.
3 Sep Juan Acuña trophy, Coruña
Decided to put on something special in their centenary year, and invited all their old stars to play in an exhibition match. The veterans beat the "Superdepor" side of recent years with two from Bebeto.
3 Sep Ciudad de Zaragoza trophy
Zaragoza took on Livorno in the Carlos Lapetra City of Zaragoza trophy during the international break. Víctor Fernández's side won 2-1, goals from Diego Milito and Segio García cancelling out Vigiani's earlier strike.
5 Sep Catalonia Cup (2005/2006)
The final from last year's competition between Barcelona and Espanyol was postponed last season due to lack of dates, and was re-arranged for 5th September at the Montilivi stadium in Gerona. Espanyol won 1-0 with a first half strike from Corominas, the first time they have beaten their city rivals in five years.

8 Oct Catalonia 2 - Euskadi 2
Two regional sides agreed to play each other in Barcelona during the international break. Venue was the Nou Camp. The Basques went two up with goals from Athletic Bilbao's Aduriz and Llorente, but deflected shots from Deportivo's Verdú and Newcastle's Luque saved the draw.
Catalonia: Valdés; Curro Torres, Oleguer, Lopo, Fernando Navarro; Corominas, Sergio, Gerard, Roger; Luque, Jonathan Soriano. Also played: Jorquera, Belenguer, Daniel Fernández, Jordi, Oscar Serrano, Verdú, Pinilla.

10/17 Dec World Club Championship
European champions Barcelona participated in the tournament in Japan, entering at the semi-final stage on 14/12 against Central America champions Club América (Mexico) Won 4-0, but went on to lose final 0-1 against Brazil's Internacional Porto Alegre. See separate section for details.
22 Dec Second Jesús Gil testimonial match
A repeat of last year's trophy, with both mangers putting out fairly strong sides to begin with, and then brining on many youngsters later on. Real Madrid keeper Diego López saved a Fernando Torres penalty early on, and with no goals at the end of the game, once again it went to a penalty shoot-out. this time though Atlético were the winners by 4-3 after Falcón saved Nieto's kick.
27 Dec Euskadi 4 - Serbia 0
Javier Clemente returned to the San Mamés stadium with his Serbia side, but they were humiliated by a Basque team who opened the scoring on the half hour mark with a Yeste penalty, and then went on to score three more through Urzaiz, Sarriegui and Uranga.

27 Dec Andalusia 3 - Peace Team 1
An historic match between Andalusia and a "Peace Team" made up of players from Israel and Palestine ended with a 3-1 win for the Spaniards. The result was the least important though as local and international dignatories witnessed a game in which the message was, well, "Peace".
Team: Pinto; Josemi, Juanma, Llera, Antonio Puerta; Reyes, Arzu, Juan Rodríguez, Jurado; Maldonado, Güiza. Also played: Calatayud, Pablo Ruíz, Raúl López, Francis, Jesús Vázquez, Mendoza, Antoñito.

27 Dec Com. Valenciana 3 - Peru 1
The Valencia Regional Community came from behind to beat Peru 3-1. Vassallo gave the South Americans an early lead, but despite having Arzo sent off before the break, second half strikes by Natalio, Parri and Redondo turned the scoreline around.

28 Dec Galicia 1 - Ecuador 1
Riazor, La Coruña. A second game for Galicia after their return last year, with Villarreal's pereira cancelling out Calle's earlier free kick.
Team: Diego López, Barragán, Rubén, Noguerol, Fuentes; Borja, Viqueira; Julio Alvarez, Trashorras, Nano; Pablo Couñago. Also played: Losada, Pereira, Capi, Manuel, Iago, Roberto, Roberto Lago, Diego Castro. Coaches: Vázquez / Arsenio.
28 Dec Aragón 1 - Chile 0
Aragón put out a side this year, with the match taking place in Zaragoza's Romareda stadium. And they won the match with a Javi Suárez header following a corner in injury time.

30 Dec Com. Murciana 3 - Ecuador 0
A second ever fixture for José Antonio Camacho's Murcia Regional Community side, with a 3-0 victory thanks to an early penalty converted by Kike Mateo, a Zamora header before the break and a second half goal from Pedro León.
Team: Juanmi; Juanma, Zamora, Pedro López, Oscar Sánchez; Valera, Mariano Sánchez, Pedro León, Kike Mateo; Isaac, Mista. Also played: Leo, Quinín, Olivares, Rodri, Tato, Manolo, Emilio, Lorca.
3 Jan 2007 Xunta de Galicia Trophy
Regional competition played during the year, with the final between second division B side Lugo and Celta. The first division team won 2-3, with second half goals from Canobbio, Baiano and Nené.
24 Apr 2007 Al Ahly 0 - Barcelona 4
Played a freindly against Egyptian champions during a break in their busy agenda. 16 year old Spanish youth international Bojan Krkic made first team debut and scored. Other three goals from Saviola, and Eto'o (2). Were paid a measly €2 million for their services!
5 Jun 2007 Catalonia Cup (2006/2007)
Nova Creu Alta, Sabadell. Now was this last year's competition or the year before? Fixture problems meant that the semi-finals and finals of this season's edition were played during the international fortnight. Both sides were packed with reserve players, and Barça took the trophy on penalties after a 1-1 draw, with goals from Ezquerro and Pedraza. Barça beat Nastic and Espanyol beat Lleida in the semi-finals a few days ago.
5 Jun 2007 Europa 1 - Osasuna 2
One of La Liga's founding clubs celebrated their centenary with a match against first division Osasuna. The Barcelona based second division B side lost 1-2, with Puñal (penalty) and Sola scoring for the Navarrans.
20 Jun 2007 Mamelodi Sundowns 1 - Barcelona 2
Post season tour to South Africa. Goals from Ezquerro and Marc Crosas. Bad news of the tour was that Puyol picked up a serious injury.
21 Jun 2007 Venezuela 3 - Euskadi 4
Won post-season friendly against team warming up as hosts of Copa América. Goals from Athletic Bilbao's Aduriz, Gabilondo and Etxeberría (2). Mallorca's Arango got two for the hosts.
