Sevilla are out of the Champions League! The Andalusians fell to a shock 3-4 defeat at the hands of neighbours Sporting Braga, and they will now have to make do with a place in the Europa League.

A goal down from the first leg, Antonio Alvarez's side got off to a lively start without being able to convert early chances. But on the half hour mark Matheus took advantage to score his second of the tie after Palop failed to hold on to a long shot, and early in the second half substitute Lima turned in a cross from the striker to make it two.

A mistake by keeper Felipe let in Luis Fabiano to get one back, and with six minutes to go Jesús Navas equalised on the night after Luis Fabiano headed on Escudé's long ball. They still needed two more though, and as they pushed desperately forward Lima took advantage to score two more to complete his hat-trick.

A late goal by Kanouté completed the scoring, but by then the club's accountants were at work calculating the damage to their finances by the defeat. Coming just three days after losing the Super Cup to Barcelona, Sevilla's season is already ruined. President Del Nido said he was still keeping faith with Alvarez, but it remains to be seen for how long.
