Valencia are out of the competition after losing 3-1 to Raúl's Schalke '04. As in the first leg, the Chés took the lead in the 17th minute when Ricardo Costa got his head to a fierce cross from Mehmet Topal to deflect the ball past Neuer. The Bundesliga side turned the scoreline around though with two goals either side of half time, the first a well struck free kick, and the second a shot from Gavranovic which went in off both posts after Guaita had saved a previous effort from Farfán. Neuer pulled off the save of the night from Aduríz soon afterwards and substitute Tino Costa fluffed his shot when free in front of goal, but Valencia were leaving spaces at the back, and Gavranovic burst thought only for Guaita to turn his shot on to the post. With the game in injury time the Swiss striker almost caught out the keeper with a long shot which bounced off the crossbar, and Farfán finally wrapped things up with a third goal on a quick breakaway in the last minute.
