Real Madrid made it through to the quarter finals of the Champions League for the first time in seven years after beating Olympique Lyon 3-0 on Wednesday night. Needing to build on the 1-1 draw from the first leg, Madrid were quickly in action, Lloris having to save from Özil, Marcelo and Ronaldo, and Khedira heading against the post (albeit that his effort was ruled out for a foul). Delgado tested Casillas at the other end, but with ten minutes to go to the break Marcelo picked up Ronaldo's return pass and rounded two defenders to score. Benzema had another effort saved by Lloris and then had a headed goal cancelled for offside, and after the restart Özil and Ramos went close. It was just a matter of time before Mourinho's side scored again, and midway through the second half Benzema made it two after Marcelo won the ball down the wing and played a long ball to him. A few minutes later the ex Lyon striker shot just over once again, and soon afterwards Özil headed a pass over to Di María for him to add the third. At last Madrid are through to the last eight and they now have "el décimo" in their sights.
