Del Bosque stuck to his tried and tested squad for next week's Euro 2012 qualifiers against Lithuania and Scotland, although he will be missing some of his creative talent after Xavi and Cesc both pulled out with injuries. The coach decided not to replace them though, even though Mata and Javi Martínez stay with the under 21 squad for the important Euro play-offs against Croatia. (30.09.10)

PS A speight of injuries at the weekend forced both coaches to draft in new players. Fernando Torres, Jesús Navas and Pedro all drop out of the senior side, with Valencia's Pablo Hernández and Aduriz and Villarreal's Bruno and Borja Valero called up to replace them. Valero and Aduriz are both uncapped. Meanwhile Ander Herrera and Javi Martínez both have to leave the under 21 squad, and Fran Mérdia (Atlético Madrid) and Fontás (Barcelona) will be their replacements. (05.10.10)
