Under 21 European finals

Spain 2 - Czech Republic 0

Spain's under 21 side are a step nearer the semi-finals and a possible place in next year's Olympic Games after a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic. There were some criticisms of Luis Milla's side after their 1-1 draw with England in their opening game, but the coach stuck to his guns and only made one change against the group favourites. And it paid off, with Adrián scoring both goals to take his team to the top of the group table. Atlético Madrid's new striker opened the scoring after Mata set him up midway through the first half, and the two combined again at the start of the second half for a second goal. Thiago, Parejo and Muniain all fired long shots wide after that, and keeper De Gea was only troubled by a Celustka header late on. A draw against the Ukraine on Saturday will see them through to the last four. (15.06.11)
