Under 21 European finals

Spain 3 - Ukraine 0

Spain's under 21 side are in to the semi-finals of the European Championships after beating Ukraine 3-0 in their last group match. Luis Milla's team needed at least a draw to go through, but with ten minutes on the clock Mata picked up Ander's pass to open the scoring. And with Spain once again dominating possession, Adrián López made it two a quarter of an hour later from Montoya's cross. However De Gea had to keep out long shots from Konoplyanka and Yarmolenko either side of half time before Mata made sure from the penalty spot after Garmasch was sent off for pulling him down. Ukraine had a chance to get back in the game three minutes later when they too were awarded a penalty after De Gea brought down Zozulyn. But De Gea saved Konoplyanka's spot kick, and Thiago, Bojan and Muniain could all have added to the scoreline late on. The win confirms that Spain top their group, thereby avoiding the dangerous Switzerland and meeting Belarus in Wednesday's semi-final, although a late win for the Czech Republic against England means that they still have to win one more game if they are to occupy one of the three European spots for next summer's Olympic Games.
