Second division B play-offs

Alcoyano and Guadalajara will join Murcia and Sabadell in the second division after both won through their promotion finals today. Alcoyano took a one goal first leg lead in to their match at Lugo, and another 0-1 victory took them up to the second division for the first time in 42 years. The Galicians had the better of the first half though, with Víctor Marco having a goal ruled out for offside and visiting keeper Maestro having to make several good saves. But just before half time Alvaro set up César Ramón for what was to prove the only goal of the match, and although Tornero headed against the post after the restart, Lugo were never going to get the three goals they needed to turn things around.

A closer tie though at Mirandés, where Guadalajara only edged it on the away goal rule thanks to a late penalty. The locals were already one up from the first leg, and when Candelas finished off a good move by Mújika in the eighteenth minute it seemed to be all over. But Juanjo got on the end of an Ernesto corner with twenty minutes to go to level the scores on the night, and with four minutes left on the clock the visitors were awarded a penalty when keeper Wilfred brought down Anibal in the area, Ernesto stepping up to drill home the spot kick to make it 1-2, taking his side up to the second division for the first time in their history.
