Spain will be in the European finals next summer after beating Croatia 5-1 on aggregate in their play-off. For a long time though the result was unclear, and a single goal could have won it for the locals. Mata, Parejo and Adrián all failed to convert good chances early on, and Rakitic fired a shot just wide of the post before having to leave the field early with an injury. Midway through the second half though Kelava failed to reach Mata's corner, and the ball fell to Domínguez who poked a shot in to the net from close range. Three minutes later Lovren was sent off for a second bookable offence, and Adrián and Jeffren scored two in the last three minutes for what was in the end a flattering scoreline.
