A set back for Villarreal in this season's European campaign, a 1-0 defeat at PAOK Salonica leaving them out of the qualifying positions. The game got off to a lively start, with Musacchio heading a free kick over and Altidore forcing Kresic in to a good save, and Ivic and Fotakis going close for the locals. After that though the chances dried up, and Garrido eventually turned to Rossi and Cazorla, who had been rested at the start. Soon after they came on though Vieirinha nipped in to head home a corner from ex Real Madrid and Osasuna midfielder Pablo García, and although Capdevila came close to equalising in injury time, it was not to be. Villarreal now have beat Dynamo Zagreb in their next match to have any realistic chance of reaching the next round.
