A bad start for Villarreal in the so called "group of death", a 0-2 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich leaving them already with a lot to do if they are to reach the knockout stage. Within six minutes they were already behind after Kroos connected with Ribéry's cross to beat Diego López, and the keeper had to be at his beast to save from Muller and Ribéry before the break. Nilmar though he should have had a penalty when a defender blocked his shot with his arm, and Rossi and Mario tested Neue before the break. But only two or three great saves from Diego López prevented half time substitute Petersen from increasing the lead, and with a quarter of an hour to go Rafinha played the ball through the legs of Bruno before firing in a shot which the keeper was unable to stop. With Napoli and Manchester City to come, Garrido's side already need a near miracle.
