Costa Rica 2 - Spain 2

Another friendly game without a win, but Spain at least saved some pride after coming back from two down to draw 2-2 in Costa Rica. The long journey took it's toll, and the Central Americans were the better side in the opening minutes. And shortly before half time a rare mistake by the usually impeccable Casillas (who was making a record 127th appearance) allowed Brenes to lob the ball in to an empty net. Fàbregas put Levante keeper Keylor Navas to the test a couple of times, but with the first half coming to a close Campbell picked up a pass from Bryan Ruíz before curling a long shot under the keeper to make it two. After the defeat against England three days ago Del Bosque was looking concerned, but despite the best efforts of David Villa the result remained unchanged until eight minutes from the end, when Silva picked up the ball after a good run by Iniesta to fire an angled shot past the keeper. After that it was everyone forward, and after Ramos headed a good chance just wide, Villa got on the end of Cazorla's free kick to make it all square with what was his 51st goal for his country. A draw in the end in what was after all a game without anything at stake, but this was not really the Spain we know and love. (15.11.11)
