Europa League, day 5

Athletic Bilbao had already ensured their berth in the next round in their last group match, but they tied up top spot in their mini-league with a 2-1 win over Slovan Bratislava on Thursday. De Marcos started things off on the quarter hour mark after Had could only turn Susaeta's cross in to his path, but Halenar hit the bar with a free kick before Sebo ran on to Milinkovic's long pass to equalise shortly before the break. Susaeta restored the lead though with a soft header from a De Marcos cross with fifteen minutes to go, and Ander could have increased the scoreline late on had the referee not ruled out his strike for a non existent offside. Atlético Madrid made sure of a place in the knock out stage of the Europa League after a 0-1 victory at Celtic on Wednesday evening. The only goal came on the half hour mark after the Scottish defence cleared a corner, the ball falling to Arda Turan for him to fire in a long shot which the unsighted Forster could only deflect in to his own net. Salvio in particular could have increased the lead a couple of times with a bit more luck, but Samaras and Stokes also went close at the other end, and the result was in doubt until the final whistle.
