Latest transfers

Midway through the transfer window, and we are well on track for the winter with the lowest number of moves in history. With many clubs facing bankruptcy, virtually nobody has any spare cash, and scouts are out looking for bargain buys that will not put a drain on their resources. Many teams are looking to lighten their load as well, and even the mighty Barcelona couldn't resist cash-rich PSG's offer for Maxwell. Other than the return of Reyes to his old home Sevilla, an act of mercy by the Andalusians, and the off-loading of Kameni to Málaga for much less than Espanyol were asking for, the only club actively looking to strengthen their squad is Zaragoza, currently languishing at the bottom of the table. Their president is facing strong protests though from angry fans, who don't understand why an organisation in legal administration can carry on wasting money to such an extent, and it remains to be seen if he survives. All in all a winter to be forgotten, and although the papers are as full as ever of rumours of big moves, don't expect things to pick up much in the remaining two weeks. (16.01.12)
