Europa League, semi-finals, first leg

Atlético Madrid beat Valencia 4-2 in the first leg of the fratricidal semi-final against Valencia to take a two goal advantage in to next week's return match in the Mestalla stadium. Falcao's headed opener was cancelled out by Jonas on the stroke of half time, but Miranda headed the locals back in front soon after the restart, and Adrián and Falcao added two more later on. However a Ricardo Costa header from Tino Costa's injury time corner kept Unai Emery's side in with a fighting chance. Athletic Bilbao were looking good in the other semi-final at Sporting Lisbon when Aurtenetxe put the Basque side ahead from a Susaeta free kick early on in the second half, but ex Sevilla winger Diego Capel crossed in for Insúa to equalise, and then beat Iraizoz with a shot from outside of the area to make it 2-1 on the night.
