Athletic Bilbao ensured a place in the next round of the Europa League thanks to a 0-1 victory at Salzburg. After the draw against the Austrians in the San Mamés stadium a couple of weeks ago, Bielsa's side needed to take something away from this game, and Llorente tested Gustafsson early on. Iraizoz had to save a couple of times from Schiemer, but with ten minutes to go to the break under 21 internationals Muniain and Ander Herrera combined for the latter to open the scoring. The introduction of substitutes Wallner and Leonardo (the two goalscorers from the first leg) caused a few problems after the restart, but Athletic held on for a win which, with the head-to-head record against Salzburg in their favour, means that they are already sure of one of the top two spots in the group.
