Athletic Bilbao made it through to the next round after knocking out a combative Lokomotiv Moscow on the away goal rule. The Russians had clearly come to Spain to defend their 2-1 lead, and they hardly allowed their opponents a shot at goal throughout the first half. Caicedo came close to that vital away goal for the visitors at the beginning and end of the first half, and things looked bad for Athletic when Amorebieta was sent off after picking up two bookings in a five minute period early in the second half. Soon afterwards though Ander´s shot was deflected for a corner, and Iñigo Pérez floated the ball across for Llorente to head across to Muniain, who volleyed a shot in to the net from close range. The fans still had to suffer for another half an hour, but eventually the referee blew the final whistle, and Bilbao were through to a last sixteen meeting with the mighty Manchester United.
