Málaga are en route to a place in the league stage of the Champions League after a 2-0 victory over Panathinaikos on Wednesday night. The Andalusians put their financial problems behind them to produce an impressive display of football, keeping their goals against column to zero and taking a two goal lead in to next week's second leg in Greece. Demichelis opened the scoring with just over a quarter of an hour on the clock, turning the ball past Karnezis from close to goal after Weligton headed in Joaquín's long corner. And with ten minutes to go to the break Eliseu fired home the second after Maresca and Isco combined to set him up. Isco, Toulalan and Fabrice all had chances to increase the lead, but the visitors came close to that important away goal later on, Caballero making important saves from Fornaroli and Spanish striker Toché, and Mavrias firing a good chance over the top.
