Under 19 European finals

Spain 1 - Greece 0

Another one under the belt! Spain's under 19 side beat Greece 1-0 in this season's European Championship final to emulate once again their senior colleagues. There were many similarities with this tournament and the one played out in Poland and Ukraine just two weeks ago, not least of which the fact that Spain's opponents in the final were the team they met in their opening group game. Julen Lopetegui's side had already beaten Greece in that match, but since then they had knocked out Portugal and England, and the coach paid them the fullest respect, putting out his best possible line up with Deulofeu, Alcácer and Jesé playing up front. For the first half hour Spain dominated, with Dioudis having to be at his best to stave off the constant attacks. Kaptidis sent a reminder to the Spanish bench with a header just wide, but Dioudis tipped a Campaña free kick on to the bar after the restart, and the reserve keeper had to make first class stops from Jesé and Grimaldo a few minutes later. Extra time and penalties were looming, but with ten minutes to go Deulofeu cut across the front of the area and slipped the ball through for Jesé to find a gap inside the far post, the Real Madrid forward's fifth goal of the tournament. Spain had retained their title, and Del Bosque can rest easy, knowing that the talent continues to flow from the forges of those football factories throughout the country. (15.07.12)
