Europa League, day 3

Atlético Madrid made it sixteen straight wins in a row in European competitions after beating Académica Coimbra 2-1 on Thursday evening. Once again Simeone rested many of his key players, but after the restart an acrobatic strike from Diego Costa and an Emre free kick put the locals two up, and Cissé's headed goal came too late to change the result. Earlier in the evening Levante kept up their push for a place in the knock-out stage after a 3-0 win over Dutch league leaders Twente. Michel got the first from the penalty spot early in the second half, and Pedro Ríos added two more late on. Once again though Athletic Bilbao slipped up, and after a 2-1 defeat at Olympique Lyon they are virtually out of the competition. Ibai Gómez did cancel out Lisandro's second half header, but Briand got the winner for the French side with four minutes to go. (25.10.12)
