And so it goes on, the Spanish under 20 side following in the footsteps of their more senior colleagues as the youth World Cup gets under way in Turkey. The stars of the show for Spain at this level are undoubtedly Real Madrid's Jesé Rodríguez and Barcelona's Gerard Deulofeu (Oliver Torres permitting), the pair putting aside their tribal differences to lead their team to a 4-1 victory over USA in their opening group match. Deulofeu set up Jesé for the opener with only five minutes gone, and with the first half coming to an end the Barça B forward added a second with an impressive shot before a good run by Manquillo ended with Jesé scoring the third. Deulofeu scored his second of the evening after Campaña put him through on the hour mark, and a late strike by Gil was scant consolation for the Americans.
