A great start for Levante in their first ever appearance in Europe, the Valencia based side winning 0-2 at Motherwell to be on track to join last season's two finalists, Atlético and Athletic, in the league stage of the competition. Juan Ignacio Martínez was missing Diop, who was left in Spain due to visa problems, and he lost left back Nikos to a crunching tackle by Cummins five minutes before the break. However a couple of minutes later new signing Christian Lell set up Juanlu for him to open Levante's European account, and a quarter of an hour in to the second half Lell was there again to lay the ball across for substitute El Zhar to score his side's second.
