Levante got off to a winning start in their first ever group stage game, Juan Ignacio Martínez's side beating Sweden's Helsingborg 1-0. The first couple of chances fell to Angel, but Ballesteros had to be at his best to clear from Accam with keeper Keylor Navas beaten. The locals went ahead though shortly before half time with a quickly taken Iborra free kick, locally born veteran Juanfran running on to beat Hansson with the visitors still protesting the previous foul. Pedro Ríos and Angel could have increased the lead either side of half time, but with Djurdjic in particular causing some problems for the home defence, the result was in doubt up until the final whistle.
