Defending champions Atlético Madrid were the only Spanish side who managed to win on day two of the Europa League, and it took an injury time strike from Cristian "Cebolla" Rodríguez to give them a 1-0 victory over a battling Viktoria Plsen. Once again Simeone gave a run out to many of his second choice players, but other than a cross from Adrián which bounced off the crossbar they caused few problems for the Czech side. Bakos went close a couple of times before the break for the visitors, and Prochazka brought the save of the night out of Sergio Asenjo after the restart. But Kozacik had to be at his best to keep out a header from substitute Raúl García later on, and with seconds to go Cebolla tee-ed himself up from Emre's short free kick before volleying home the winning goal, extending Atleti's record run to fifteen victories in a row in European competitions.
