Atlético Madrid made it sixteen straight wins in a row in European competitions after beating Académica Coimbra 2-1 on Thursday evening. Once again Simeone rested many of his key players, but his side were on top right from the start, and Adrián, Koke and Emre all had chances before the break. A couple of minutes after the restart though Diego Costa opened the scoring after tiago headed on Koke's corner, and a few minutes later Emre made it two with a well struck free kick in to the top corner of the net. The Portuguese team had only tested Asenjo a couple of times during the match, but with five minutes to go they did make a fight of it when Cissé headed in Marinho's centre, and the local keeper had to be on his toes to save from Cleyton in injury time. A good result though in the return leg in two weeks time and Atleti will already be sure of a place in the knock-out stage.
