Defending champions Atlético Madrid are out of the Europa League! Simeone's side put up a brave fight against Rubin Kazan in a freezing Moscow, running out 0-1 winners on the night but losing 2-1 on aggregate. With the Spanish league and cup given priority, the coach left many of his key players at home. But Falcao made the trip, and he put Ryzhikov to the test a couple of times early on. Kislyak almost scored in his own net, and Raúl García went close a couple of times either side of the break, but Sergio Asenjo had to be at his best to keep out ex Málaga striker. With seven minutes to go Falcao gave the visitors hope when he finished off a good run by Adrián, but even though Spanish defender César Navas got himself sent off after that for a foul on the Colombian centre forward, the Russian side held on for a last sixteen meeting with Levante. Atleti will be ruing more than ever though the silly goal they gave away in the last minute of the first leg which in the end cost them the tie.
