Latest transfers

Another few days closer to the start of the new season, and all the Spanish sports papers have been full of Real Madrid's bid to take Gareth Bale away from Tottenham. The Madrid based Marca has in particular managed to keep the issue on the front page of their daily every day so far, and it seems the only things to be sorted out now are how the world record nine figure sum will be paid, who may go in part-exchange, if anyone (Coentrao is the current favourite), and which shirt number he will wear (almost certainly the number 11 which Granero left a couple of seasons ago).

Meanwhile Tottenham have been busy finding replacements for the Welsh Wizzard, with Soldado the latest to sign for Spurs for a reported €30 million fee. The Spanish international striker fired off a broadside against the Valencia club president when he left, but the Ches have been concentrating more on getting in someone to take his place, a move for Zaragoza's Postiga apparently hitting the rocks as the now second division side asked for another million on the previous €3 million fee.

Elsewhere Higuain completed his move to Napoli and Sevilla tied up PSG's Gameiro, and although Espanyol strengthened their squad with Benfica's Pizzi and Sidnei as part of a complicated deal with Atlético. Zaragoza, Olympiacos and sundry finance companies over keeper Roberto, the Catalan side's move for Fluminese's Samuel Rosa (also via a finance company) has fallen through. (03.08.13)
