Poor results in the last couple of under 17 European tournaments meant that Spain are unseeded this year, and therefore they have to play the first qualifying round. However with two out of four to qualify for the Elite stage Santi Denia's new squad of youngsters are not expected to have too many problems, and they are already well on the way after a 3-0 victory over Moldova. All the goals came in the first half hour of the match, with Athletic's Villalibre starting things off, and Canos (Liverpool) and Altamirano (Atlético) adding the other two. Spain now meet hosts Cyprus on Friday, with a last game against Norway the following Monday. Norway beat Cyprus 4-2 in the other group match.
