Pre-season fixtures

The new season has officially started for Spanish clubs, with Real Sociedad winning through a tricky Europa League qualifier against Aberdeen! Next week sees the European Super Cup in Cardiff, with local boy Gareth Bale taking his Real Madrid team to play Europa League champions Sevilla, and before the league season starts Madrid play city rivals Atlético over two late-night legs in the Spanish Super Cup, and Athletic Bilbao, Real Sociedad and Villarreal all have further European qualifiers. Elsewhere the usual round of summer tournaments, with Valencia winning Arsenal’s Emirates Cup and Málaga taking the honours at Schalke’s in-house competition, and in the next few days Deportivo and Cádiz will host their prestigious Teresa Herrera and Ramón Carranza trophies, details as always via the above (subscriber only) link. All of that though is to get their sides in shape for the big kick-off, which this season begins on the weekend of 23-25 August. We can’t wait! (08.08.14)
