Latest transfers

The big news this week was the confirmation of FIFA’s transfer ban on FC Barcelona, which will come in to force once the transfer window closes at the end of this month, and which will last for two “windows”, i.e. up until 1 st January 2016. As those of you who have followed the story will know, the ban has been imposed for what FIFA consider to be breaches of the way the club sign young players, even though Barcelona pride themselves that their “Masia” academy is a model which is looked up to by many, giving opportunities to talented youngsters from around the world. Barça still have one appeal left to the TAS, but in the meantime they are making plans to cover themselves for the next fifteen months, with for example Brazil’s Douglas just about signed up, but scheduled to be loaned back out for a year. Expect more deals in the next ten days or so before the window closes at midnight on Monday, 1 st September. Elsewhere most clubs have now completed their squads, although there is still room for last minute signings, with the usual bargains around as several teams try desperately to offload unwanted players, and others look for the missing piece to complete the puzzle.
