Defending champions Sevilla came back from a goal down against Zenit to take a narrow lead into next week’s second leg. Gameiro went close for the Andalusians early on, but Shatov brought a good save out of Sergio Rico, and Ryazantsev headed wide before beating the keeper at the second attempt to put the Russian side ahead on the half hour mark. Emery made two changes at the break though, and soon after the restart Garay had to clear off the line from Denis Suárez, and Krychowiak headed past the post. With twenty minutes to go Bacca levelled the scores with a header from an Aleix Vidal cross, and just two minutes from the end Suárez drilled home an impressive winner after M’Bia headed a corner back to the edge of the area.
