Real Madrid took their eleventh European champions title after beating Atlético Madrid on penalties in this year’s final! Oblak had to make an early save from Casemiro, and a few minutes later Sergio Ramos opened the scoring after Bale headed on a Kroos free kick, referee Mark Clattenburg waving away clear appeals for offside. Griezmann tested Keylor Navas a couple of times before the break, and just two minutes in to the second half Atlético were awarded a penalty when Pepe fouled Fernando Torres in the area. Griezmann fired his spot kick against the crossbar however, and only a couple of saves by Oblak and a block by Savic prevented Benzema, Ronaldo and Bale from adding to the lead. With ten minutes to go though Gabi and Juanfran combined to set up substitute Carrasco for the equalizer, taking the tie in to extra time and then a penalty shoot out. But Juanfran fired his team’s fourth kick against the post, and Ronaldo converted the next one for Zidane’s team to sink their city neighbours for the second time in three years.
