Match round up - Second Division B - play-offs, day 4

This year’s promotion play-off finals wil be between the third and fourth placed sides from regional groups III (East) and IV (South) after Cádiz and Sevilla Atlético won through their semi-final ties on Sunday. Cádiz knocked out group I winners Racing Santander, a 0-1 victory in the Sardinero stadium adding to their 1-0 win from the first leg a week ago. Alvaro García scored the only goal on the hour mark, cutting through the defence to beat Oscar Santiago, and although the Cantabrians had a strike by Dioni disallowed for a marginal offside later on, they were never going to get the three goals they needed to turn things around. Earlier in the day the Sevilla B team beat UD Logroñés 1-0 on aggregate, the single goal scored a week ago enough to take them through after a scoreless draw in the Andalusian capital. A capacity 5,500 crowd saw the youngsters hold their own, and the Riojanos hardly caused any problems for local keeper Caro throughout the ninety minutes. As teams from the same regional group cannot play against each other, Cádiz will meet Hércules, and Sevilla Atlético will play Lleida Esportiu, with the two winners over two legs to join Reus and UCAM Murcia in the second division A. Real Madrid Castilla are out of the promotion play-offs after they were beaten 0-3 by Lleida Esportiu on Saturday evening! Having missed out in the group champions play-offs, the youngsters were looking to overturn their 1-0 defeat from the first leg. However with half an hour on the clock keeper Carlos Abad was sent off for bringing down Colinas in the area, and Marc Martínez stepped up to fire home the resulting penalty past substitute Alfonso. Colinas and Arroyo added two more after the restart, and the Catalans now have a chance to return to the second division (albeit under a new name) after a ten year absence. Hércules will join Lleida in the finals after they drew 2-2 against Toledo, the 0-1 result from the first leg swinging things in their favour. However the two sides will be kept apart as they both came from the same regional group. The Alicante based team raced in to a two goal lead, David Mainz and Alex Muñoz both scoring in the first twenty minutes, and the tie appeared to be over. However Onésimo’s team came back with strikes from Mikel Fernández and Roberto before the break to level the scores on the night, and the result was in doubt until visiting keeper Manolo was sent off for a foul outside of the area with a quarter of an hour to go. UCAM Murcia are the honorary champions of the second division B after beating Reus 5-3 on penalties on Wednesday evening. Like the first leg, the return match in the Condomina stadium ended without goals, although the hosts had to play most of the second half with ten men after Remón was sent off. Local keeper Biel Ribas saved well from Ramón, and Alex Colorado hit the bar for the visitors, and in the last minute of extra time Nono Delgado also got his marching orders for the home side. They held on though until the shoot out, and Ribas saved Haro’s spot kick to win it for the university team. (08.06.16)
