Defending champions Real Madrid are well on track for another final after they beat city neighbours Atlético 3-0 in the first leg tie. Zidane’s side dominated right from the start, Carvajal and Benzema bringing good saves out of Oblak before Ronaldo headed the opener from a Casemiro centre. The visiting keeper was in action again to make stops from Varane, Isco and Benzema, and Modric and Benzema both fired efforts just wide. Keylor Navas only had to make one real save from Gameiro midway through the first half, and Godín, Koke and Carrasco all tried their luck, but otherwise the locals had all the play, and with twenty minutes or so to go Ronaldo made it two after dragging Benzema’s pass past Filipe Luis before volleying a shot in to the net. And with the game coming to an end Ronaldo completed his hat-trick after Casemiro stepped over a Lucas Vázquez cross to add to the five he scored against Bayern Munich in the last round. Atlético were beaten by the old rivals once again, and even Simeone couldn’t inspire them as they allowed time to run out when they had the chance to play a last gasp free kick into their hosts’ penalty area.
