Under 21 Euro 2017 qualifier

Spain 6 - San Marino 0

Spain’s under 21 side completed the formalities on Thursday, a 6-0 victory over San Marino keeping them on track for a place in the finals. Celades gave a first run out at this level to Diego González, Grimaldo, Mikel Merino, and they were on top right from the start, Munir heading against the post before González got on the end of an Oliver Torres centre to open the scoring. Munir added two more, the first from Deulofeu’s cross and the second after picking up a loose ball on the edge of the area, and Santi Mina made it four on the stroke of half time after Oliver put him through. With six minutes to go Mina got his second of the night from Grimaldo’s cross, and Williams completed the “set” after Benedetti could only push out a shot from Munir. Spain are still only third in the table however, and they have to beat Sweden on Monday night to have any real chance of qualifying. (01.09.16)
